Luckily, God Never Shut Down Our Earth, Wind and Fire

September 30, 2013: Luckily, God Never Shut Down Our Earth, Wind and Fire

With our government shutdown supposedly looming upon us, I can't help hear a different version of the great Earth, Wind and Fire song "September" in my mind (cool video of original seen here!).

September

Do you remember the last night of September?

Pride was shutting the minds of pretenders,

While closing offices the next day.

Our heads were throbbing

From the senses that our pols were robbing.

As we drank through the night,

Remembering how the fools stole the next day.

Hey, do you remember

Scoffing in September:

Federal shutdown the next day?

Our thoughts say don't trust you,

Holding suspicious hearts that see you.

Only fool’s talk and pride,

Remember, how we knew ill-will had won the day.

Will November find the mess promised us in September?

Only fool’s talk and pride,

Remember, the spiteful ill-will that won the day.

Hey, do you remember

Scoffing in September:

Federal shutdown the next day?

There was abandonment.

Say, do you remember

(abandonment) scoffing in September,

(abandonment) broken bi-partisan days?

Now our heads were spinning.

Neither side was winning.

Do you remember federal shutdown the next day?

There was abandonment.

Say, do you remember

(abandonment) Scoffing in September,

(abandonment) broken bi-partisan days?

My apologies to the members of Earth, Wind and Fire, who probably find being associated with our government officials as a new low point in their career, a place even lower than being in the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band movie.
