Sometimes I Lie

Circa 2003

Sometimes I Lie

Sometimes I lie,

Typical male response

(Typical human response).

------------------------

I put on a front that shows one side.

I lie through my teeth that all is right.

I say what my audience wants to hear.

I shamefully lie to protect how I appear.

Now I debate if I should admit.

Now I question if I should answer.

Now I wonder. . .

But then that might make someone hurt.

Many times I lie

And lying can be saying nothing.

Lying can be avoiding.

Lying is playing it safe.

I haven't been entirely honest

And it's led to resentment,

Led me to silence when silence is the lie

That led me to here.

---------------------------

So, I hide behind the lie,

My camouflage with my world.

Only a very few will ever know

Exactly where I lie.
