Vehicular Manslaughter
April 22, 2025
They've been building up to this for months,
A slow encroachment as I retired,
Not sure what this says about the economy,
When their construction has never been higher.
The majority of them flank me from the front,
With a healthy contingent out back,
A steady onslaught of grinding intent,
An endless machination of attack.
Today, may have hit the peak,
20 vehicles surrounding my home,
Pick-ups, earth-movers, cement mixers,
Service vans, personal cars, dump trucks roam.
The streets are snarled like Manhattan,
The noise is consistent and deep,
With the occasional interruption
Of that annoying back-up beep.
I feel helpless here, no way to defend
My life against this incessant onslaught
All I can do is sit here and stew
Realizing how much my place means squat.

Don't be confused by the last picture, thinking the pickup in the driveway of the brown house shouldn't be included. That house has been abandoned and unfinished for 15 years. Someone just used their driveway because there isn't anywhere else to park their damn vehicle.
