Hey, dude, it's your future self.  I've been thinking about us since Boston's "More Than A Feeling" came on.

Doc?  What the heck?  Are you really from the future?

Back to the future, you might say?  Don't ask. You'll get it in about 10 years.

This is so cool. How did you know to find me at the Wharf Rat?

How else was I going to contact you? You're a couple years away from your first Apple.

My first apple?  What?  Been eating those since I was four, you idiot.

Again, you'll get it in a few years.  Anyway, I knew I could send messages through that Space Invaders game.  Anyway, that's not important. I wanted to give you a heads up about that Boston concert you're going to tonight.

Man, this is so cool. You are from the future. Much like the spaceship on the cover of the Boston album.

Trust me, the future is about as exciting as seeing spaceships again on Third Stage. What a tired trope.

Trope? What are you talking about? And there are second and third stages at the concert?

Ugh. I forget it will be a few more years before you start reading anything besides Mad Magazine.

Anyway, "More Than A Feeling" always reminds me of something I wish I could tell my younger self. You know when I lose myself in a familiar song and I close my eyes and I slip away.

Good God, is this what I have to look forward to?  An old age defined by Boston lyrics? The guys and I are mostly going tonight to get out of the damn house.  It's not like we're rabid Boston fans.

That reminds me. Listen really closely before the concert.  You'll hear something then that will change your life.

Is there an opening band?  They don't list anybody. In the past it has been Sammy Hagar or Blue Oyster Cult.

No, this will be in the incidental music played while the roadies set up.  I don't want to give anything away, but it will be just what you needed.

Just what I needed? Will it be a girl who can't keep her hands off of me?

Oh, good God, shut up. No.  We are digressing.  No, what I want you to be ready for is something I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.  Don't let Tim go to the bathroom alone.

O.k., that's it. I think I get why I won't have a girl who can't keep her hands off of me.  You telling me that in the future I will be gay   . . . not that there's anything wrong with that.

Sweet Jesus, no.  Shut up and just listen to me.  When Tim goes to the bathroom, you and Steve are going to be attacked by some thugs. Please do whatever is necessary to prevent this terrible disaster.

O.k. you are really losing me here and some punk behind me really wants this Space Invaders game.

Look, at some point during a natural break in the concert, the three of you will head into the concourse.  Three guys will come up to you, claim you said something derogatory about Cherokees, and then one will hit you.  Steve will be paralyzed by one with a cane between  his legs while Tim will be clueless in the restrooms.  Avoid this. Go to the bathroom as a group.

Yes, in so many words, that is exactly it.  Trust your intuition. It is more than a feeling.

Sheesh, like that isn't the mantra of our teenage years.  Look, promise me you'll just take precaution.

Precaution?  I thought you said there would be no girl wanting her hands all over me.

Good God, no wonder I try to forget my teenage years.  Just know that every time we hear that soaring "More than a feeling" when I hear that old song they used to play, we will regret not being ready in that moment.

Wow. This is really lame.  These are just songs, future me.  I am not going to go to the bathroom the same time as my friends just to avoid some stupid confrontation.  Tell me, I always figured future me would be smart enough not to be hitting the doobies. Is that not the case?

Let me assure you, I am alive and well. The Doobies are another time, younger me. Just remember my precautions.
